Open Programmes
In response to a number of recent enquiries we are able to offer open AE residential programmes in 2009/10.
Courses are modular, each module will run for 6 days and be multi-activity based. Delegates will be collected from a central pick up point and delivered back to the same point on completion of the programme. Instructor/Pupil ratio will be 1:2 and there will be a maximum of 8 places. Using a modular approach means that parents can access a course and can tailor the programme to their situation and budget.
The course will consist of 3 structured Adventure Education programmes each lasting 6 days. We have designed this programme due to the high level of interest from families who are finding it difficult to obtain the level of support or advice they need at what is for most families a challenging and difficult time in the life of a young adolescent. We do not guarantee an immediate result – young people have learned their existing behaviour over several years and it is unrealistic to expect them to unlearn these behaviours in just 6 days.
Whilst this approach is most effective over a period of 3 weeks, we believe that this course offers a sensible compromise to families who need some help and assistance at a critical point in the lives of their children, and who cannot realistically manage the time and cost of a longer programme.
What we do aim to achieve is helping these young people understand more about themselves and the impact they are having on those around them, help them discover their true strengths and give them opportunities to make real life changing choices that will transform the way they think and behave.
Candidates will be accommodated in bunkhouses or under canvas and costs cover equipment (sleeping bag, waterproofs and rucksack will be provided), travel during the programme, food and instruction. Delegates will also take part in group discussion work, one to one performance coaching and action planning. Families will be given a written report on their childs progress along with a copy of an Action Plan that has been agreed by their child.
