It is also possible for a young person to gain a qualification during their Adventure Education program. Qualifications available range from those that simply mark effort and achievement in fun activities, through to those that are nationally recognised by both the DfES and employers alike.

se are learner centred qualifications that are approved by the DfES and recognised by UCAS in application for higher education. They offer opportunities for a negotiated curriculum which is modular and activity based and they encourage candidates to develop responsibility for their own learning through a process of action planning and review. They assist in the personal and social development of the individual through a focus on Key Skills for which the QCA (Qualifications Curriculum Authority) national standards provide a template for assessment and accreditation. They recognise achievement across the school/college curriculum, as well as in the home, the community and the world of work.
The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. This could be any where from a mountaintop to a city garden. It encourages the discovery and conservation of wild places, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. The Award is non-competitive, open to all and is the educational initiative of the John Muir Trust. There are three Levels of the John Muir Award, encouraging a progressive involvement. All levels of the Award are based on meeting the same four challenges of: Discover, Explore, Conserve, Share. This makes a great addition to any young person’s record of achievement.
The National Navigation Award Scheme. This is a series of awards that recognise personal achievement in learning to navigate. As well as being a practical life skill essential to independent living, this award provides an opportunity to engage young people in fun and rewarding highly practical education.
All our mentors are able to award BCU Star Awards that recognise personal performance in canoeing and kayaking.
Practical HSE approved first aid training (and assessment where appropriate).
This introductory programme is especially suited to those who are aspiring team leaders, or if you are working in a team with little or no formal training. It is useful as a bridge-back into learning, and provides an ideal start to your future ongoing development. It is most suitable for young people who are emerging as being ready to seek employment and are serious about taking their development forward. It involves a minimum of 22 guided learning hours on completion of which a certificate is awarded after final assessment.
